gingerbread

Ms Chaffee's class joined Ms. Baker's class to make gingerbread cookies and the reading of The Gingerbread Man book. Later that day we heard that when the kitchen staff was cooking the cookies they ran away! We posted on social media to keep an eye out for our gingerbread people. Throughout the month of December we got mail from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, North Carolina, California, Germany, Alaska, Ireland, Netherlands, and Florida! All the mail told us about places where our gingerbread men were spotted. Every time we got mail we also learned facts about that place. Including the following:

- New England is made up of 6 states in the Northeastern United States: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

- Connecticut is the 29th most populated state and is where the first color tv was.

- For North Carolina we learned about the Wright brothers and even saw a video of one of their first flights

- We learned about compose rose and how it can help us.

- We learned about White Face, the Ferry and The Statue of Liberty in New York.

- We saw the Golden Gate Bridge in California and learned about how it was built.

- We learned about German Desserts when our gingerbread people visited Germany!

- In Alaska we learned about how they have days that are all dark and all light. We also learned about the Iditarod race.

-We learned that Ireland got it's nickname 'Emerald Isle' from the lush vegetation, green pastures and soft rolling hills in the country.

- We saw pictures of the tulips from Neitherland.

- We also learned about a cool traffic circle in Sebring Florida that has a park in the middle.

Before break the gingerbread cookies came back and the whole school was able to frost and enjoy them with hot chocolate.
