The Orleans Central Supervisory Union PTCA recently hosted a vibrant and well-attended Winter Party, bringing together families, students, and community partners for an afternoon of outdoor fun, creativity, and connection. The event was free and open to the entire community, highlighting the collaborative spirit of local parent groups and organizations.

Literacy and storytelling were an important part of the event. The COFEC Parent Group organized a StoryWalk® featuring the children’s book Ten Ways to Hear Snow by Cathy Camper, allowing families to read the story together while walking outdoors. Attendees also enjoyed engaging storytelling sessions with Ms. Denise. Families were encouraged to browse a selection of free winter-themed books generously donated by Building Bright Futures. Every child in attendance had the opportunity to bring a book home, further promoting a love of reading throughout the community.

The Lake Region PTCA and the Lake Region Student Council coordinated a popular Crockpot Cookoff, where guests sampled a variety of delicious dishes, as well as a crafting station where children could create projects to take home.

Families enjoyed scenic rides pulled by the beloved horses Rock and Chub, of The Kingdom’s BEST Horse Drawn Wagon Rides, and adventure provided by the Orleans/Brownington PTCA.

The Irasburg/Albany PTCA hosted a lively “Anything But a Sled” sledding competition, encouraging participants to get creative with their downhill rides. They had participants in kayaks, laundry baskets, suitcases and the traditional tube. Families were invited to warm up around Swedish fire pits and try out snowshoeing, too.

The Winter Party was a wonderful example of what can happen when our PTCA groups and community partners come together. “It was an evening filled with laughter, learning, and winter fun for families across our district,” said Lake Region Community Service coordinator and COFEC parent, Katie Powers.

The OCSU PTCA extends sincere thanks to the participating PTCA groups, volunteers, community organizations, and families who made the event such a success.
